The Valley Yarns Basic Scarf from Measurements is a response toone of the most frequent questions a yarn store employee hears: “How much yarndo I need to make a simple scarf?” However, there are as many different notionsabout the size, gauge and stitch patterns on a “simple scarf” as there areknitters! So this pattern attempts to settle the debate once and for all and tohelp every knitter create her or his vision of the ideal, simple scarf.
We’ve weighed and measured dozens of knitted items to create adetailed yardage estimation chart for scarves of many sizes, along with keynumbers for calculating yardage for sizes outside its range. We also includedetailed instructions for finding gauge and using it to make a scarf with thedesired width and five common knitting stitch patterns to mix and match to createthe scarf uniquely yours.
